Say hello to my bees!
My bees live in one of the only temperate rainforests in England! They have thousands of acres of the South Hams in Devon to fly around and collect pollen. They drink fresh water from the River Avon at the bottom of my garden they don’t have any motorways or horrible sprays near their home or food. I also make sure they can eat their own yummy honey over the colder months rather than give them refined sugar. This means I collect less honey but my bees are healthier because they eat their own organic food.
Who I support
At first, I mostly gave my honey away to my family, friends and schoolteachers. It became a little hobby for me and helped with my dyslexia – especially reading and writing about bees!
After a school visit from a homeless shelter charity, I had the idea of selling my honey to help raise money for charity. I told my mummy that it costs £12 to take a homeless person off the street and give them a bed, meal and shower for the day. I wanted to use my honey to raise money to provide as many days as possible for them to have a safe place to sleep.
I now support a charity called The Story of Christmas Appeal (SOC Appeal) which helps to raise money for many different charitable projects that provide shelter and food for homeless people, help children and adults who are seriously ill, and provide opportunities for children that don’t have any support.
Honey forever!!
Did you know that honey was found in the ancient tombs of Egyptian pharaohs and was still edible? Honey is incredible and can last forever!!! The important thing to do is store it correctly.
My top tips for keeping your honey forever:
Keep it in the jar it arrives in
Make sure the lid is air tight
Keep it in a pantry and out of direct sunlight
If your honey crystallises, which all pure honey should, warm it up and it will become runny again!! Yummy!!
